Identifiernot specifiedPhotographernot specifiedDescriptionThe boat was built at Terrigal, on the NSW Central Coast, in 1886 as a ferry and excursion boat but she was taken under contract by the New South Wales Government for ferry work to connect t NSW north-south railway line.

Prior to the construction of the first railway bridge in 1889, train passengers alighted at Brooklyn, boarded the paddle steamer, the General Gordon, and travelled via Broken Bay and Brisbane Water to Gosford.

When the Woy Woy tunnel was opened in August 1887 she was transferred to a shorter run along Mullet Creek, from a wharf near the present site of Wondabyne, to the wharf at the southern end of Long Island, near Brooklyn.

The Hawkesbury River railway bridge opened on 1 May 1889 and ‘General Gordon’ was subsequently used as an excursion steamer until about 1910 when she was sold to the local Windybanks boatshed. Her hull was cut into segments, which were then used as the hulls for several static houseboats.Physical FormatDangar Island
