Add1st Mar 2018 9:26PMSylviaTonkin (1895 - 1984) and Will Tonkin (1879 - 1963) owned this grocery shop from c.1940 until August 1956, when they sold and moved to Blair St, Bondi. Prior to 1940, they ran another grrocery shop in Florence St from 1931 when they moved to Hornsby from Liverpool. It took them just under a decade to save the money for outight purchase of 43 Florence St which had a "much better location". They had four children:

DescriptionThis is 43 Florence St, Hornsby which ran from Hunter St, east to Albert Lane. In 1931 Sylvia & Will Tonkin leased this as a green-grocer shop, eventually purchasing outright during WW2. They moved to Blair St Bondi in August 1956 after the death, in London, of their third child, Athol. They had 4 children: Gordon, Laurie, Athol and (young) Sylvia.
Will (Grandpa) would take his horse'n'cart down to Paddy's #6 until Laurie returned from the war, and took on this task. The trees on the Hunter St boundary were massive Camphorlaurels which made the house dark and gloomy.
