When the clay was found to be unsatisfactory the factory changed to manufacturing clay earthenware pipes. The business was closed during the Depression and the site was abandoned, eventually being purchased and filled in by Hornsby Council and named Storey Park in the 1950s. Another quarry operated at the end of Baldwin Avenue from 1925 by H. Bullock who mined shale deposits for the manufacturing of bricks and pipes. This area later turned into Mills Park that includes a sports field and where Asquith Women's Bowling Club opened in 1963, which today operates as Norwood Preschool.
