It has been suggested the three men were digging topsoil for garden supply or excavating foundations. The shadow on the ground suggests they are behind a large building. The man on the right has been identified as Clement Carr (1891-1970) of Chatswood, great uncle of Catherine Williams who supplied the photograph. Information given by Geoff Ford.
