The tent school opened on April 2, 1883. The tent was replaced with a wooden building in October 1883. Philip Wayne was still teacher-in-charge when the new school building opened in 1889 at the more central site of Hornsby Junction. He remained principal teacher until 1897, educating the children of Hornsby for 14 years.
