DescriptionThis photograph was taken from Alexandria Parade looking towards the railway line near Waitara Station.
On 7th July 1922 Frank Kemmis, manager of the Government Savings Bank in Station Street Hornsby was attacked on a southbound train between Hornsby and Wahroonga with a hammer. His bank keys were stolen and the unseen offender escaped. Mr. Kemmis was taken to the Royal North Shore Hospital and died the next day.
Subsequently an attempt was made to rob the bank with the stolen keys however the thief was unaware that the safe could only be opened with two sets of keys so the robbery attempt was abandoned.
Scores of detectives worked on the case but the perpetrator was never identified and this murder case remained unsolved.Physical FormatWaitara
