DescriptionMr. G. R. Sawyer was a Hornsby removalist who owned a 30 cwt (1.52 tonne) Graham Brothers truck.
In September 1924 he was contracted to transport a load of furniture (expensive maple and rosewood) and effects from Hornsby to Dorrigo. His truck was overloaded and three tiers high. Somehow it managed to negotiate steep ranges with grades of 1 in 3, crossing creeks in 2 feet of running water with loose and muddy bottoms. The truck traversed dangerous and almost impassable roads.
Mr. Sawyer was pleased with its easy starting after standing all night in very cold and frosty weather.
The distance of the return trip was 835 miles and it took 10 days to complete the journey.
