Identifiernot specifiedDate24th August 1898Photographernot specifiedDescriptionOn 24th August 1898 a stock train from Werris Creek bound for Sydney derailed in a cutting near present day Mt. Ku-Ring-Gai. The engine left the rails and overturned. The wagons were heavily loaded with cattle and sheep (many of which were killed). The driver had a miraculous escape as the engine turned over he was thrown several yards into a clearing only slightly injuring his ankle. The fireman jumped off just in time to avoid being crushed beneath the engine.
