Identifiernot specifiedDate17th April 2017PhotographerRobert GreenDescriptionHookhams Corner was originally called Five Ways due to five roads coming together (Galston, Carrington, Old Berowra and Peats Ferry Roads and what was then a track heading north to what is now Asquith.
Alfred Edward Hookham was born in 1858 at Chippendale and married Emma Mitchell in 1880. They moved to Hornsby and had 5 children between 1886 and 1895. His wife died in 1895 and he re-married Edith Howe in 1897 having another 5 children. Alfred lived in Peats Ferry Road and as a carpenter he built a number of homes in the Hornsby area from the 1890s to early 1900s. Hookhams Corner where he lived was named in his honour. The first reference to Hookhams Corner was published in the Cumberland Argus newspaper on 5th September 1903.
With increased traffic in the 1960s Hookham’s Corner intersection was causing traffic problems. Consequently construction and reconfiguraton work was undertaken. The ends of Carrington and Old Berowra Roads were repositioned away from where they all met at the corner. Physical FormatHornsbyDimensionsRobert Green Collection
