11th Sep 2024 7:31PMThis carving was made by Alfie Hole who lived in Hampden Road. It was his regimental symbol and I think he had been in the Boer War. When I lived in Hampden Road in 1960's he was quite a much loved character and took a big interest in all the children in the street. He taught us how to use air-guns and also had an assortment of sugar gliders living in his garage which he would let us see.
