BiographyJames Thomson enlisted on 7 July 1915 and he was killed in action on the first day of the Somme campaign, which was the first major battle of the Australians on the Western Front. He was killed between the allied line and the German line at Fromelles by artillery fire.
He had previously served for 1 year in the 19th Infantry, Citizen Military Forces and was still serving at time of his AIF enlistment.
