BiographyFrederick Gartung enlisted on 15 January 1916 and he was said to have drowned after falling into a trench full of water shortly before the Battalion went into action.
He enlisted aged 15 "and had not long left school, but his ardour to serve his country at such a tender age was the cause of others enlisting".
