15th Feb 2022 5:35PMBack in the fifties my family and I would holiday at Cowan Creek for two weeks of fishing. We would meet Gordon Windybank at Bobbin Head and be taken on the ferry Gloria to Bernie Beausangs boatshed at Waratah Bay there we would collect the launch that we had hired it was a wooden hulled vessel with an inboard motor with a fly wheel start it also had a wooden tiller with the initials BB branded into it. From there we would go to one of Gordons moored houseboats I remember the name of two of them Cosy Land and Dreamland. Once settled we would then go to Andersons General Store at Cottage Point to get provisions. Once the road was put in to get to Cottage Point we changed from the Houseboats to one of Gordons Cottages one was called Sunrise on the top of the hill at Cottage Point and the other was called Elishham
My Father and Gordon Windybank got on well and had many an enjoyable drinking session together and as such I got to know John one of Gordons son very well enjoying Empire Night one year at Gordons house at Mt Colah.
I have extremely fond memories of my time at Cowan Creek where we experienced things from a small local earthquake to what was then referred to as a tidal wave which was caused by an earthquake all the way over in Chile. As an ageing adult I am pleased to say I have managed to get back to Cowan Creek several times since those glorious days
