Thomas Higgins was born about 1739. He was tried at Derby Assizes, sentenced to 14 years & arrived in NSW as a convict on June 26 1790 after a voyage of over 6 months on Fleet ship SURPRIZE. He married Eleanor Kilpack nee MacDonald (her second marriage) on Jan 31 1799 at St Phillips Church of England, Sydney. He was Free by Servitude by 1800. He is recorded in 1828 with his wife. He was a farmer when he died age 89 years at Parramatta & was buried at St Johns Church of England, Parramatta.
Eleanor (MacDonald) was born about 1754. She was tried for stealing linen sheets, on November 6 1787, of James Buttfield on December 12 1787 and sentenced to 7years, held at Middlesex Gaol, and arrived in NSW as a convict on June 3 1790 after a voyage of 12 months on Fleet ship LADY JULIANA-a ship with 228 female convicts. Eleanor was the widow of David Kilpack (First Fleet Convict, 'Scarborough', 1788). David had died November 30th 1797, leaving Eleanor with three young daughters.
Eleanor was Free by Servitude by 1800. She is recorded in 1828 with her husband, Thomas Higgins. She died on September 28 1835 age 81. She was buried with her first husband David Kilpack.
