Allan McLean
Details
BiographyAllan Maclean enlisted on 14 June 1916, at the time of enlistment his mother was living at Wisemans Ferry.
In June 1917 he was wounded in the back but returned to action and in July 1918 he was promoted to the rank of Lance Corporal.
He died of wounds at the 6th Australian Field Ambulance after being hit in his right arm by a shell while waiting in a support trench. His company was being moved up to the front line. It was reported that he had lost a lot of blood on the trip back to the dressing station and was not expected to live. He was said to have said to a friend “I’ll see you in Blighty old chap, good bye”, just before he was taken back to the dressing station.
