The retrospective streetscape was created by renowned outdoor artist Hugues Sineux, who painted the first instalment late last year and has just completed the second.
“This was a particularly special project, as the two facing murals allowed me to create a truly three dimensional artwork,” Mr Sineux said.
“I’m used to transforming previously drab walls, but this time I have been able to fully bring to life a scene from the past.
“The butcher’s shop was inspired by an historic photograph of a shop that once stood on the same site.”
Hornsby Shire Mayor Philip Ruddock thanked Mr Sineux for his excellent work, which has been enthusiastically received by the community.
“One of my primary motives for joining Council was to see Hornsby Shire’s rich heritage acknowledged and preserved,” Mayor Ruddock said.
“This magnificent piece of art does both, bringing new life to the west side of Hornsby while also shining a light on its colourful past.
“I encourage everybody to take a walk down this memory lane, while you should also keep an eye out for more projects like this because we are certainly not done bringing art to our streets.”
Former Hornsby Shire Mayor Steve Russell, who was the driving force behind the mural’s conception, was also there to see the finished product.
“This has turned out even better than we originally hoped,” Mr Russell said.
“Hugues has done our community a genuine service with this piece of art, which offers new details to discover every time you walk past it.” Physical FormatHornsbyDimensionsHornsby West Side
