Margaret was the daughter of Walter Friend of 'Cintra' Burwood who came to Thornleigh in 1908 and was an active Red Cross worker and President of the Thornleigh - Pennant Hills Red Cross Branch during the First World War. In 1919 she gave a portion of her property in Duffy Avenue to the Presbyterian Fellowship movement.
