This street was named after Field Marshall Sir Thomas Blamey, GBE, KCB, CMG, DSO, ED (1884-1951), the first Australian to reach the rank of Field Marshal Commander in Chief, Australian Military Forces and allied land forces in the South Pacific area during World War 11. He served brilliantly during war of 1914-18, rising to rank of Brigadier and became Brigadier General, General Staff Australian Army Corps; took 6th Division of Middle East in 1940; became GOC 1 Australian Corps and GOC AIF (Middle East), also held concurrently appointment of Deputy Commander-in-Chief British Forces (Middle East).
