Holly Road probably derived its name from the holly trees in the area. According to E. Hepworth "...I stood on Holly Road on the part of Hornsby Shire known as Cherrybrook and looked down to the valley where my early teens were spent, and remembered the towering Holly, Rhododendron and Camellia trees around our home."
