TypeBayDetailsThis is an estuary extending from the ocean at Barrenjoey to the mouth of the Hawkesbury at Elaeanor Bluffs. It is a mistaken belief that the bay was named by Captain Cook. Governor Phillip was the first European to explore the area on 2 March 1788 and the name appears on Bradley’s 1789 chart as Broken Bay.
