He was a design engineer with the State Railways involved in the electrification of the Blue Mountains line, and personally developed the farmland into the residential community of Jacinta Avenue. Deeply religious, he put his faith in Our Lady of Fatima following a tragedy on December 1946 when a son Eric, a member of the RAAF occupation forces in Japan, was killed in an aircraft crash. In Portugal near the township of Fatima, on May 13, 1917, Jacinta with her friends Lucia and Francisco witnessed the miracle of Fatima.
