BiographyAlbert Underwood enlisted on 25 July 1915 and was shot while advancing on enemy lines. I
Private Dench said "I saw him shot on 19.7.16 at Fleurbaix about 150 yards from our trench. We were advancing at the double at the time and he was about 4 yds in front of me. He fell backwards and said something as he fell but I could not understand what he said. I thought he was killed. The Germans did not come over; it was this side of the River, so he could not be a prisoner. I am quite sure it was Underwood, he was my mate."
A Court of Enquiry was held in the field on 4 August 1917 and he pronounced as 'Killed in Action, 19 July 1916'.Age22Date of Death19 July 1916Civil employmentGrocerRelationshipsSon of B Underwood of Wellingbrough, Northhamptonshire, England, and brother-in-law of Fred J Wooding of Westbrook Avenue, Wahroonga.
