StreetSutherland RoadSuburbBeecroftDetailsAccording to Walter Hazlewood, the road was named after Sutherland in Scotland. The southern part of this road is now Blaxland Road and Langston Place, but the northern end in Cheltenham, Beecroft and part of Epping, still bears this name.
According to the Beecroft Cheltenham History Group, the name was first used in 1886. Originally it ended at Devlins Road opposite Lyne Road. As late as 1959 Sutherland Road was not shown as continuing along the west bank of Devlins Creek to connect with Derby Street, Epping but Devlin Road is shown. The road was named in honour of John Sutherland, Minister for Public Works in 1887-9.
