TypeSuburbDetailsCanoelands is a semi-rural area between Forest Glen and Maroota. The first European activity there was timber-getting and among the tall stringybark trees were numbers where the bark had been cut off in strips for the Aboriginal people to make their canoes.
The area takes its name from these trees, but it was not officially classified as a suburb of Sydney until 1955.
The chief industries at present in Canoelands are nurseries and stone fruit orchards. Canoelands Orchard is well known for welcoming visitors to pick their own berries. The Canoelands Walking Trail is another increasingly popular feature.Creator'Our Bushland Shire' (2021) p.93
