StreetAlexander ParadeSuburbCarlingfordDetailsAlexander Parade was named for Alexander First Earl of Tunis (1891-1969), a British field marshal and one of the most successful commanders of British and Allied troops in World War II. He was born Harold Alexander, in Tyrone, Northern Ireland 10.12.1891. He commanded the First Division, France in 1939 and was in charge of the defence and evacuation of Dunkirk. Alexander was sent to Burma as commanding general in 1942 and was later transferred to the Middle East, in August 1942, as General Montgomery's immediate superior, at El Alamein, where the British defeated the Germans and Italians, forcing them back into Tunisia.
