StreetBardia RoadSuburbCarlingfordDetailsNamed after a campaign in the Western Desert, Africa between December and January 1940-41 when the British forces attacked the Italians who had advanced into Egypt, driving them across the frontier towards Bardia, Libya capturing some 38,000 prisoners. Almost 450 Australians were killed or wounded in a battle of 4 January 1941, when Bardia was captured. More than 40,000 Italians were captured,with many guns and tanks.
