StreetBenghazi RoadSuburbCarlingfordDetailsBenghazi was a similar coastal fortress to Bardia and Tobruk in the African Western Desert campaign, World War II. The British force continued its western advance after driving the Italian army back to Bardia, and captured Benghazi, 6 Feb.1941. About 20,000 Italians were captured. In two months fighting the British force destroyed 10 Italian divisions, clearing the way for an advance to Tripoli.
