TypeOtherDetailsLittle Shark Rock Point is on the northern shore of Cowan Creek between two unnamed bays east of the entrance to Jerusalem Bay. It is sometimes known as Newcastle Point because of the wharf that was built there by the Newcastle and Hunter River Steamship Co. in the late 1890s. The company was granted a lease on the point on December 12, 1893 so that excursions could land during day trips from Sydney. Sharks were plentiful in Cowan Creek and Broken Bay up until the 1950s. Gordon Windybank, talking in the 1930s said: 'At Shark Rock near Jerusalem Bay there were that many damn sharks, there were schools of them.'
