TypeSuburbDetailsThe suburb was originally named 'Kuring-gai' in 1892, and it carried that name until 1933 when the 'Mount' was added to distinguish i from the Local Government area that was incorporated originally as 'Shire of Ku-ring-gai' in 1906.
'Kuring-gai' railway station opened on November 5 1901 however it was moved just south to its current location in 1904, with the current platform and building opening in 1909. On Wednesday November 1, 1933 'Kuring-gai Railway Station' was renamed 'Mount Kuring-gai Railway Station'.
A post office opened in 1908 with the first post office building located adjacent to the station platform. It also became the village general store and for some years, it was run by Mrs Bragg. It was destroyed by fire shortly before being demolished around 1984 as part of the Freeway construction.
The suburb has always been split in two. Firstly by the railway (1887), the Pacific Highway (1930) and finally the F3/M1 Freeway (1989). CreatorOur Bushland Shire (2021) p.174
