TypeOtherDetailsOne Tree Hill is a feature on the north-west of Lower Hawkesbury and it is name associated with early surveying techniques. Major Mitchell, the surveyor-general, gave an account of the methods used to produce his 1834 Map of the Colony of New South Wales. The surveyors worked between fixed points located on peaks and in order to for these to be visible from a considerable distance: 'the hills were cleared and single trees were left.'
