TypeCreekDetailsPumpkin Point Creek rises at Canoelands Ridge and drains eastward to enter the Hawkesbury River at Pumpkin Point. Messrs Hourston, Griffith and Johns obtained land grants along the creek in 1831 but the creek is unnamed on the survey map of that same date. However just three years later, an application by John Jeffreys in the Sydney Gazette dated December 13, 1834 shows he has applied for 50 acres at Pumpkin Point Creek for the price of 5 shillings per acre.
It would seem plausible that pumpkins were grown in the valley and that the creek was so-named. CreatorPowell, John P. 1994, Placenames of the Greater Hawkesbury Region, Hawkesbury River Enterprises, Berowra, p.99.
