SuburbBrooklynTypeOtherDetailsSandbrook Inlet is between Brooklyn and Long Island with its eastern end enclosed by the railway causeway. It is commonly known as the Gut. It has been suggested that the name should be Sandbrook because of some association with Dr E.R. Sandbrook. He was medical officer on Milson and Peat Islands for several years prior to World War II and from 1953 to 1966. It seems unlikely that the name would be so recent; it is more likely to be associated with the discharge of sand from Seymours Creek at the western end of the inlet.
