DescriptionThe General Gordon was used to transport passengers across the Hawkesbury River between 1886 when the Northern Railway Line opened and 1889 when the bridge was built. Afterwards it was purchased by Edward Windybank who sawed it in half to make two houseboats (Mick Joffe, "Yarns and Photos", p 69).
