George Peat was recognised as the first European resident of the Brooklyn district. He received a land grant of fifty acres in 1836. This land was at Peat's Bight, near the mouth of Berowra Creek. He married Miss Blaxland and had two sons by this marriage. A second marriage to Francis Ternen produced two sons and five daughters.
In 1840, Peat received another grant of land at Fairview Point on the northern side of the present bridge crossing. The division of his holdings by the river necessitated that some safe form of transport be provided for the movement of stock. For this purpose he constructed his ferry in about 1840.Physical FormatLidcombeDimensionsRalph Hawkins
