Identifiernot specifiedDatec1947Photographernot specifiedDescriptionThis ward was named after Thomas Edmund Rofe who was President of Hornsby Shire Council in 1932 and was a well known philanthropist. Originally land on Galston Road was to serve as a site for a hospital.This site was deemed unsuitable at the time due to its distance from the railway station and lack of gas, electricity and sewerage facilities. Instead the land was used as a park and oval and named 'Rofe Park'.
The whole district was united in the fundraising for the new hospital but the most generous single benefactor was Mr Rofe who donated a large amount of money to the cause.
The hospital was officially opened by Sir Phillip Game, Governor of NSW on August 26, 1933. It was estimated that 5000 people attended the ceremony.Physical FormatHornsby
