The opening of the Pennant Hills Guide Company was held at the Picnic Grounds Thornleigh (Thornleigh Park) on 26 September 1936 in the presence of Captain Miss Hazlewood and Lieutenant Miss McPhee.
During the years of the Second World War the girls were busy supporting war appeals including the Princess Alice appeal on 24 May 1940. This worldwide appeal by the Countess of Athlone was to purchase two air ambulances and a motor lifeboat for the war effort. Members raised money by doing odd jobs, such as gardening and child care.
The amount raised nationally was £2,000. The world total was £48,000 an amount which exceeded expectations. DateMay 24th 1940KeywordsPennant HillsGirl GuidesWWII
