Identifiernot specifiedDateCirca 1888Photographernot specifiedDescriptionIn 1885, Joshua Everingham, the publican of the 'Black Swan Hotel' in George Street, Sydney, foreseeing an influx of workers to the area for the imminent building of the railway line, took a first step to welcome them in a fashion they would appreciate. He bought allotment 14 section A to build a hotel and applied to the Ryde Licensing District Board for a publican's licence for the 'Brooklyn Hotel', built in late 1884.
