TypeClippingDetailsAnother popular pastime in Berowra was fishing. Berowra was regarded as one of Sydney’s premier places for fishing and was frequently mentioned in fishing articles. Many fished from the shore, or hired their own boats, but others were taken out by a local. Net fishing was particularly popular.
However, by 1932 the Berowra community had grown concerned that net fishing was responsible for a serious decline in fish stocks in Berowra Creek. Newspaper articles reported that they sought to have net fishing banned, or limited by a closed season. Line fishing and fishing from boats remained popular though. Excess fish caught were often packed in salt and ferns taken from the surrounding bush and carried back to the city.CreatorBerowra Living History GroupKeywordsCowan Creek BerowraBerowra CreekBerowra Waters
