Bicycle races became popular and the round trip from Sydney through Pennant Hills to the Blue Gum at Waitara and back, both for cycles and carriages became a weekend pastime. In 1894 Will McFadyn rode a bicycle from Sydney to Galston via Hornsby in two and a quarter hours.
