Joyce Vickery, from Cheltenham, became the first woman to be appointed in a scientific capacity to the Public Service of New South Wales when she joined the Professional Division of the Department of Agriculture.
In 1962 Joyce Vickery received considerable publicity when she helped solve the Graeme Thorne kidnapping and murder case by her careful forensic evidence.
