The 3,426 square metre garden comprises of the original home site area and the property garden surrounds. The ‘Hopetoun’ cottage of Lilian’s earlier years was built about 1900 and demolished in the early 1970s. Lilian then had a new brick home built on the site. The garden serves to commemorate the memory of a gracious and caring lady, a notable local identity and an admirable citizen, who was a dedicated garden enthusiast and a versatile, outstandingly gifted biological scientist of international repute.
