Six months of dry weather along the northern highlands from Pennant Hills to Galston and Berowra, have played havoc with citrus and stone fruit crops. Orange grove owners are burning spoiled fruit at the rate of 1000 bushel cases a week.
From the pipe-head at Castle Hill, near the Old North Road, a constant stream of motor trucks and horse drays is pulling up and filling drums with water, to be carted, in some cases 14 miles, for domestic and poultry farm needs.
Those with wells and windmills are considered fortunate and the cry of the settler in parts not served by the Water Board, is "Give us water. We are living in a natural garden, which, however, cannot stand a continued drought".'Physical FormatPennant Hills.
