DetailsCheltenham Girls High School was first established in 1958 by the Department of Education. The six-acre land was bought in 1952 from Mr and Mrs Robert Vickars, who later donated their home to the school, which included the stained-glass windows now displayed in the school. The school officially opened in 1961, with Miss Bessie Mitchell as the principle. The initial years were described by Mitchell as "chaotic", as the building was still in progress, and many residents opposed it due to Cheltenham being a heavily residential area. The school was well acquainted with Mr Bob Dunne and his horse Peggy, who swept the streets around Cheltenham and Beecroft for fourteen years after the school opened. Unlike the current day uniform, the uniform enforced in the 1970s included gloves and hats, as well as a strict knee length dress.
