Perhaps Claude was helping the family out for a while as both families originated from Lithgow, NSW and may have known each other from there.

According to the Sands Directory R. Champion & Son bootmakers ran a business in Hornsby during the 1920s. In 1926-1928 the address is given as Peats Ferry Road, Hornsby. In 1930 the address was given as High Street, Hornsby. The Sands Directory for 1931 shows R. Champion & Sons bootmakers running a business from Coonanbarra Road Wahroonga.

Richard Champion and Rose Jones had married in Lithgow in 1893 and went on to have five children, Richard, Mabel, Doris, Herbert and Eric, all born in Lithgow.
The family moved to Hornsby, lived in Burdett Street and Richard opened up his bootmaking business. Later all three sons would become bootmakers themselves and worked with their father in the Hornsby store.Physical FormatHornsby
