Thousands crowded into Hornsby Mall to witness a significant change in the retail sector of Hornsby. Shire President Nan Horne opened the Mall at noon, before a flurry of balloons. Among the guests were the then Premier and State Member for Kuring-gai Nick Greiner and his wife, Kathryn.
The day was a showcase of entertainment and activity. There was plenty for the children with clowns, face painting and the play area within the Mall.
Hornsby Lions Club conducted a fun run in aid of homeless youth. About 230 took part and 10 were presented with certificates by Mr Greiner.
Members of Hornsby Historical Society dressed in historical costume.
