StreetLisgar RoadSuburbHornsbyDetailsThe Governor of New South Wales for the period 1861 to 1867 was Sir John Young Bart, KCB GCMG. His name was perpetuated by naming Sir John Young Crescent in Woolloomooloo in his honour. It is also very probable that Young Street in Sydney's central business district bears his name.
Subsequent to his return to Great Britain, after completing his term of office in New South Wales, he was created Baron Lisgar. It is believed that this was, in part at least, in recognition of his service in New South Wales.
A new road, running off William Street, Hornsby was built around this time and named Lisgar Road. It was a dirt road, surfaced at a much later date.SourceLisgar Gardens: The story of Hornsby's secret garden (1997)Map[1] LinkLisgar Gardens, Hornsby, NSW, Australia - A true hidden gem
