DetailsPennant Hills Public School was officially opened on its current site on March 14, 1925, by the Minister for Education Mr. Bruntnell. The school opened at the beginning of the 1925 school year with 158 pupils and Mr. MacDonnell as headmaster, who was assisted by a junior teacher.
Local residents spent a great deal of time planning the Opening Ceremony as they wanted it to be 'a memorable day for the children.' When the Minister opened the new building, it was the first time that a member of the Crown had attended a public function in the suburb. Children were treated to a variety of cakes and watermelon and the event is recorded as 'Watermelon Day'. Watermelon Day has become a tradition at Pennant Hills Public with re-enactments held over the years.Date taken1925, 1975 LocationPennant HillsGeotag[1] KeywordsSchoolsPennant Hills
