According to Ross Storey's book 'Into the Lion's Den' there is clear evidence in the local newspapers of the time, that a Hornsby Rugby Union Club was formed in 1904.
When WWI started in 1914, the NSW Rugby Union suspended operations for the duration of the war and newspaper references to Hornsby Rugby disappeared for decades.
It is not clear when Hornsby Rugby reformed but there are photographs of Hornsby Rugby teams taken during the 1940s.
