Photograph by Clare Schofield for 'The Shaping of Hornsby Shire' . Waddell Cottage was built by James Waddell (1840-1911) in 1866-1867 for himself and his wife Ann (nee Woodbury). He had arrived in Australia in 1841 with his father James Waddell (1799-1879), a free settler from Northern Ireland who moved to Galston in 1853. The cottage was occupied by his family until 1969 and is currently in the grounds of Galston High School. (See L B Geelan, Galston and Arcadia, p9-11.)
