This photograph comes from the collection of Samuel Ryland, one of the subcontractors of the Union Bridge Company which built the bridge.

Prior to the construction of the first railway bridge, train passengers alighted at Brooklyn, boarded the paddle steamer, the General Gordon, and travelled via Broken Bay and Brisbane Water to Gosford. This photograph shows the General Gordon at the bridge opening ceremony on 1 May, 1889. The postcard itself is postmarked 1905.Physical FormatPhotograph
